Faculty in the bioengineering program are actively investigating scaffolds for bone regeneration and ingrowth.  Scaffolds are designed to facilitate cellular recruitment and/or delivery by providing an appropriate mechanical environment and chemical cues, including novel growth factor delivery strategies.  Nanoparticle imaging probes and therapeutics are being investigated for improving the diagnosis and treatment of diseases like cancer.  The design of scaffolds and diagnostic devices is enabled by research on advanced synthesis and processing methods, including nano/microfabrication, biomimetic syntheses and additive manufacturing processes, among others.
